It gives you, the user, complete and easy access to the disk, including a simple procedure for quick and easy recovery of a crashed directory. Features include an easy method of cataloging and updating a master list of all your files and the important information relating to each one. K-DISK is distributed free of charge. Feel free to pass along unmodified copies to your friends, users group, or favorite bulletin board. Each copy of K-DSK that is registered insures the owner will be notified of corrections and the next new release/version. Software support will be restricted to registered owners only. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS K-DISK requires a TRS-80 (tm) Color Computer with 64K of available RAM, Disk Extended Color Basic, and at least one disk drive. K-Disk was written using Color Basic 1.1, Color Extended Basic 1.0 and Disk Extended Color Basic 1.0. Newer ROM versions may not be compatible. LOADING K-DISK The K-Disk utility program has a filename of KDSK.BIN and is loaded with the 'LOADM' command. The program can be modified to autostart and will ask if you want to modify the initial parameters. The program will then display the title page and then, after you press enter, the main menu of K-Disk. Initial parameters that can be modified are default drives and printer control characters. K-DISK is set up for Star printers initially. PROGRAM FEATURES 1. SCII DUMP - This option will dump the contents of a specified sector to the screen or printer in ASCII. It blanks out the characters in the non-ASCII range for easier reading. Uses the arrow keys (See special keys). Display shows 256 bytes per screen. ASCII DUMP can be used to find key words, commands, and hints in machine language adventure games (when you get stuck & need a little help). To use: a. Select option . b. Answer prompts to select Drive, Track & Sector. c. Uses special keys defined below 2. ACKUP - Does a complete disk backup and allows for single drive backups. If an I/O ERROR is encountered during the backup, the program will stop so the bad track and sector can be noted, and then continue with the backup when any key is pressed. This feature is an important part of the disk recovery procedure (explained later). Backups can be made to a formatted or unformatted disk (RS format only). The Backup option can also be used to test a disk for bad sectors. Simply select the same drive as source and destination drive, but instead of swapping disks when prompted, press enter. Backup will stop at all bad sectors. To use: a. Select option . b. Select source and destination drives when prompted. If source and destination drive are the same, BACKUP will prompt you when to swap disks. c. If two drives are used and backup is in standard Radio Shack (RS) format, the destination disk can be unformatted. By selecting nformatted, the destination disk will be formatted first. 3. OPY - A fast copy routine to transfer files from one disk to another. COPY option copies files to contiguous granules whenever possible. If file is copied to an empty disk for example, first granule would be 00. This can be very helpful when searching through a file. COPY makes a copy of the directory (See SAVE option below) after each use. To use: a. Select option . b. Answer prompts for selecting source and destination drives. Each file on the source drive will be displayed on the screen with a letter prefix. Select the files to be copied by the prefix letter. Select as many as you want and press ENTER when ready. If file exists on destination disk, that file will not be copied and you will notified that the file was not copied. c. COPY supports single drive copies and will prompt you to swap disks. d. COPY will abort if there's not enough disk space on the destination disk. 4. UMP SECTOR - Dumps the contents of a specified sector to the screen or printer in Hex and ASCII.
